If you’re pregnant, or someone you know is pregnant, or you just love learning about the human body – then this article is for you. I’ll tell you in very simple language what’s happening to your baby each week.
Let’s go with the noise!
First trimester – weeks 1 to 12

(When everything starts)
Weeks 1 and 2 – Baby not yet born.
It sounds a little strange – but pregnancy is actually counted from the day you had your last period. That means the baby isn’t technically there in the first two weeks! Your body is just doing its thing.
Week 3 – Wow Magical Moment
Sperm and egg meet – and a new human being is born. What a time it is, a tiny ball of surf cells – a zygote, as they call it. But this ball is doing the most important thing in the world – dividing, growing, maturing.
Week 4 — No children found at home
This little ball of cells attaches itself to the wall of the uterus — this is called implantation. This is where the pregnancy test comes back positive. And this is where the baby’s real journey begins.
Week 5 — Be brave!
This week is very special. The baby’s heart is forming. It’s just a small tube – but this tube will soon become a beating heart. The brain and spinal cord are also starting to develop.
Week 6 — Heartbeat for the first time!

At week 6, the baby’s heart is actually beating — about 100 to 160 beats per minute! You can see and hear this heartbeat on an ultrasound. It’s a moment for many moms – and honestly, why not! It’s so emotional.
Week 7 — The brain is building at a rapid pace.
A seven-week-old baby’s brain is creating 100 new brain cells every minute. 100 in a minute! The tiny shapes of a nose, eyes, and ears are also beginning to appear.
Eighth week — Fingers are starting to form.
The baby is now the size of a raspberry. The little buds on the hands and feet are starting to form fingers – they are still attached to each other, but will soon separate. The heart, brain, kidneys, lungs – are all forming at the same time.
Week 9 — Baby is starting to move!
You may not feel it yet — but the baby is making tiny movements! The nervous system and muscles are working together. And now it’s officially called a “fetus.”
Week 10 — All organs are functioning.
The heart is beating. The kidneys are making urine. The brain is sending signals. Think — sir, so much in 10 weeks! The baby is now the size of a hazelnut.
Week 11 — Started doing fist bands!
Baby’s fingers are now separated and he can clench and unclench his little fist. Teeth are also forming inside the gum – you won’t see them yet, but they are there!
Week 12 — First trimester ends!
This is a very important milestone. The baby’s entire structure is now formed — all the organs, the hands and feet, everything is in place. The baby is now about 6 centimeters long — the size of a nimbus. And the danger of miscarriage is that a lot of work is done.
Doosri Trimester — 13 to 26 weeks

(When the baby is starting to feel it)
Week 13 – Unique Fingerprints!
Did you know? Are baby fingerprints forming at seven weeks old? No two people in the world have ever been found with identical fingerprints. Your baby has already become a unique person!
Week 14—Making faces.
Baby can now close and open his eyes, make me-me sounds, and practice vocalizations. All of this is muscle development — the baby is basically practicing life on the inside!
Week 15 — Light is felt
Eyes are still closed – but baby can sense light. If you shine a flashlight on your pet, baby can use the door. Isn’t that amazing?
Week 16 — Boundaries are being formed
The soft cartilage is now turning into real bone. The baby is now about 12 centimeters long and weighs 100 grams — the size of an orange!
Week 17 — Baby fat storage begins
The baby is starting to develop fat under the skin. This fat will help regulate body temperature in the winter when the baby comes into the world.
Week 18 — Baby can hear your voice!
This week is honestly the most heartwarming. By week 18, your baby is so developed that he can hear the sounds of spring. Your heartbeat. Your voice. The song, everything!
So talk to your child – he is listening!
Week 19 — Coating on Baby’s Skin
The baby’s skin is covered with a protective creamy coating called “vernix.” This coating protects the skin from getting soaked in amniotic fluid. What a smart design!
Week 20 — Half past zero!
Congratulations! You’re halfway through your pregnancy. The baby is now about 25 centimeters long and this is when most mothers first feel their baby move — a slight flutter, like butterflies flying around in their stomach!
Week 21 — Baby is looking for a drink.
The baby starts to vomit amniotic fluid. This is a practice for the USKI digestive system. The kidneys filter this fluid – a real life experiment!
Week 22 — The roast and spinach have arrived.
The little eyebrows and cheekbones are now visible. The baby’s face is now starting to look completely real. The shape of the lips is also becoming clearer.
Week 23 — Baby recognizes your voice.
Research suggests that by week 23, babies are already able to recognize their mother’s voice. They react differently when someone else speaks – and differently when you speak! The baby already knows you.
Week 24 — Breathing Practice
The baby’s lungs are practicing by “breathing” the amniotic fluid. These are not real lungs – but the practice is essential. It is possible for a baby born at 24 weeks to survive with medical help.
Week 25 – Touch the feels.
Baby’s sense of touch is developed. If you apply slight pressure to your belly, baby may push back! This is the first conversation of a lifetime between you and your baby!
Week 26 —Eyes Opened!
At week 26, the baby opens its eyes for the first time! The eyes are developing slowly. The baby can blink and react to light.
Third trimester – weeks 27 to 40

(When Baby is an arrow to the world)
Week 27 — Brain activity increases
The brain grows most rapidly in the third trimester. Brain waves show that they can be — just like those in a newborn baby.
Week 28 — Baby is dreaming!
REM sleep – that is, dream sleep – begins at week 28. Your baby is dreaming in the womb. If only we knew what he was dreaming about!
Week 29 — The limits are met.
All the baby’s bones are formed. The baby is taking 250 mg of calcium from your body every day for its own needs. That’s why calcium is so important during pregnancy!
Week 30 — Vajan has been a fast Wednesday.
From now on, the baby is gaining about 200 grams of weight each week. The brain, lungs, and digestive system are all maturing.
Week 31 – Punch Senses is active!
By week 31, your baby’s five senses — sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch — are all active. Your baby is experiencing the world — right from the womb!
Week 32 – Breathing for 40 minutes
The baby now practices breathing for 40 minutes a day. The lungs are almost perfect. A baby born at 32 weeks has a very good chance of survival.
Week 33 — The skull is soft — in a nutshell
The baby’s skull is still soft and flexible. It is designed to compress the head slightly during delivery and exit the birth canal. Nature has thought of everything!
Week 34 — Nervous System Flight
The central nervous system and the phalanges of the fingers are now mature. The baby is now about 45 cm long.
Week 35 — Baby’s house is getting smaller
The baby has grown so much that there is no more room in the womb. Kicks are done — but rolling and stretching are felt. The baby usually becomes upright by the time — head down!
Week 36 – Early Period
The fine baby hair that was all over the body — the long hair — is now disappearing. The baby’s use of it is neglected and it is stored as potty first!
Week 37 – Full term!
The baby is now a poor little bird. All the organs are working. The baby could be here any day now!
Weeks 38 and 39 – Final Touch-ups
The baby’s last layers of fat are forming. The last brain tissue is forming. The baby’s grip has become so tight that it could bite your finger as soon as it is released.
40th Week — Hail to the World!
40 weeks from a single cell to a complete human being. With its own heartbeat. With its own unique fingerprints. With its own distinct personality.
This is the greatest miracle of science – and you are a part of it.
